The Spay-Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP) and Houston Photographer Brett Chisholm are once again joining forces to raise funds and awareness to combat animal overpopulation in Houston as they present the SNAPshots Celebration and 4th Annual Fashion Show featuring the designs of Billy Reid, Tonshea Yvonne and Chloe Dao.
Houston is in the midst of an animal overpopulation crisis that is seemingly endless. In just one week, November 1st through the 7th, at Houston’s Bureau of Animal Regulation and Care, 525 animals entered the shelter. Of these, 254 were euthanized. This is just one week and one shelter, combined totals throughout the greater-Houston area are even more compelling. The plight of animals that are born as a result of free roaming and irresponsible breeding is dire. There are simply not enough homes for the animals that need them. There is hope though! Through awareness and education of spaying and neutering, as well as free and low-cost resources, we can end the harsh reality of animal overpopulation for Houston’s dogs and cats.
One Houston charity, SNAP, is doing all they can to help these animals by providing free and low cost services to those who need it most in the community. Through their unique mobile clinic program and low-cost surgery and wellness centers, SNAP is making it possible for animals to get the appropriate care, regardless of their owner’s ability to pay. In addition, SNAP is helping to break the cycle of animal overpopulation by making it easier for animal owners to spay and neuter their animals, ending many of the unwanted births that inundate area shelters.
To help SNAP better serve Houston, Brett Chisholm, along with fashion designers Billy Reid, Tonshea Yvonne and Chloe Dao are teaming up to present the SNAPshots Celebration and Fashion Show! Every dollar raised from the event will enable SNAP to expand services and provide additional free community resources.
The event is being held on December 3, 2009 from 7 p.m. till 11 p.m. at Winter Street Studios, 2101 Winter Street, in Houston. The event features an exclusive fashion show, great food, dancing and a popular silent auction featuring great finds from Houston’s finest retailers, restaurants, boutiques and more.
The spectacular fashion show, produced by Élan Raichle Rogers of FashionHouston.com, features the work of internationally acclaimed designer Billy Reid, Project Runway winner Chloe Dao and famed Houston designer Tonshea Yvonne. Strutting their stuff down the runway and showcasing key pieces from the collections will be internationally acclaimed models from Neal Hamil Models.

Each dollar helps us reduce overpopulation and improve the overall welfare of all of Houston’s animals, while at the same time proving financial relief to animal owners throughout the city.”
“The mission of SNAP is to prevent the suffering and death of cats and dogs due to overpopulation, especially in low-income areas,” Chisholm added. “Because of overpopulation in Texas, more than half a million animals are euthanized annually at a cost of over $20 million dollars. These figures do not include animals that are abandoned and die from starvation, disease, or trauma. Failure to sterilize animal companions is a major cause of animal overpopulation. Providing these resources to the community is a key to breaking the cycle of overpopulation.”
