Isabella, Garrett and I were all lucky enough to participate in this excellent documentary. It features movers and shakers from the community that are doing great things to promote spay/neuter and advocate for the lives of Houston's animals. I had the pleasure of meeting the creator, Gurukarta Khalsa, while she was filming interviews at SNAP and was amazed at her passion and dedication to this project. Spay Houston
Spay/Houston is featured in the new documentary “One Hundred Thousand Hearts.” They are hosting a red carpet screening of this independent film about the pet population crisis in Houston and surrounding areas. The film focuses on the importance of spaying, neutering, and responsible pet ownership.
The screening is on Thursday, October 28th at 7pm at the Movie Tavern on I-45 at Richey Road. The red carpet rolls out at 6:30pm in order for onlookers to meet some of the cast and the filmmaker. An after party will be held in the Movie Tavern bar from 9pm to 10:30pm, please come to the party even if you cannot attend the movie. The documentary is directed by independent filmmaker and native Houstonian Gurukarta Khalsa. It is her third documentary. “One Hundred Thousand Hearts” was filmed during July and August of this year and features local veterinarians, shelter workers, rescue groups, volunteers and pet lovers, including Deana Sellens of Spay/Houston, Deborah Hoffman of Corridor Rescue, Laura Welch of SNAP, Mike Kinsella of Friends of BARC, Shelby Kibodeaux of CAP, Dr. Caroline Oeben, Dr. Dev Rajan, Dr. Robyn Palmer, and many beautiful rescued animals. The film includes original music by Cary Beare and by Wendy Francisco. There is no graphic footage in this film.
The Movie Tavern is generously donating the viewing time. Admission to the movie is free. Spay/Houston will be accepting donations for consumables and additional surgical instruments for the clinic, so please donate generously!
