Rover's Makeovers! Rover Oaks Pet Resort, Taking Homeless Pups from Bow to Wow!

The pup-tastic grooming staff at Rover Oaks Pet Resort in Katy are helping animals from Citizens for Animal Protection (CAP) go from bow to wow by providing weekly doggie makeovers for lucky CAP dogs each Wednesday. The pups also receive a free grooming certificate from Rover Oaks Katy so their new adoptive parents can continue to keep them looking their best! 

This week we have two darling terrier mixes...Von Ruffles, a five year old silky or Australian terrier mix, and Ashton, an eight month old cairn terrier mix. Both pups were as sweet as they could be, and both were found as strays so we don't know much about them other than that.

Von Ruffles was found near Greenhouse Road and I-10. He is an active little guy, but quiet and good for the grooming staff, just needs a little practice having his feet groomed.

Meet Ashton Before Her Rover’s Makeover!

Ashton has a little more to say, particularly if you are not paying attention to her. She came out of her travel crate and buried her head into the groomer's shoulder. When she was not being cute and cuddly, she was being cute and playful...very interested in the other dogs and standing like a little meerkat in play mode. She was very good for the groomer.

Costumed Canines Take to the Streets for the Fifth Annual Citizens for Animal Protection Howl-O-Ween Dog Walk and Expo at LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch!

Save the date for this awesome event benefitting Citizens for Animal Protection.  

WHO:
Citizens for Animal Protection (CAP), along with Rover Oaks Pet Resort and LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch are teaming up to present the fifth annual Howl-O- Ween Dog Walk and Expo at LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch.

WHAT:
Costumed canines, along with their human companions will hit the streets of Katy’s premier shopping area for a 1-mile walk followed by a spirited costume contest and expo featuring fun for everyone, all while benefitting the animals at CAP. The first 200 participants will receive complimentary goody bags and a commemorative t-shirt. Additionally, CAP is inviting the entire community to stop by their shelter following the dog walk for a one-day special of $15 micro- chipping. All proceeds from this event will go towards CAP’s mission of sheltering, rescuing and placing homeless animals, "Speaking for those who cannot speak for themselves.”

Participants can also enter to win great door prizes from Rover Oaks Pet Resort and LaCenterra. Prizes include a free weekend of lodging, free obedience training, a complimentary “pet makeover” from Rover Oaks Pet Resort‘s posh grooming salon and LaCenterra gift cards.

Meet Fred (gotta love a dog named Fred!)...a one and a half year old Yorkie mix, found as a stray on Detroit Avenue downtown. He is a cute and sweet little guy who needs a little practice getting used to the grooming process (who can blame him...it does not appear he was ever groomed in his life!) but is otherwise a good boy who deserves a great home. He has a cute little snaggle-tooth smile and adorable ears! Fred's stray hold is up on August 10, at which time he will be looking for a better family who will take care of him and keep him safe.

This week our makeover team went to work on two horribly matted little pups...shih tzu mix Charlie who has an adopter waiting for him, and Little Girl a spaniel girl who will need to undergo heartworm treatment before she is available for adoption in three or four months.

The grooming process was very uncomfortable for Charlie, but he is a good and sweet little boy who will do fine with just a little practice. Since the grooming staff was able to de-mat instead of shaving his tail, they gave it a little blue highlight (all natural dyes, harmless for dogs, which will quickly wash out).

The little girl was an absolute angel even though she, too, was horribly matted...and underneath one of the mats on her neck was a deep wound.
